Setting up an extra password for non-Mediref recipients

One of Mediref's main features is the ability to send correspondence to non-Mediref recipients or patients in a manner that is compliant with the Privacy Act.

This correspondence goes out as a secure link with the auth tokens embedded within that link. You may, optionally, add an additional password that the recipient must input to gain access to the correspondence.

How to enable

  1. Go to your security settings page
  2. Select your preferred extra password option - either Date of Birth or 'Custom'.

Selecting DOB will prompt you to add the patient DOB when creating correspondence and if your recipient already knows this (if they are the patient or if the patient is mutually known) then you will not need to communicate this outside of Mediref.

Custom passwords can be any text and will need to be communicated to your recipients outside of Mediref.

You will also have the option to set a default password when you choose custom - use this if you wish to have a set password that you will use for all outgoing correspondences.

Sending correspondence

On the compose page when creating correspondence, you will be prompted to input the patient DOB or a custom password for non-Mediref recipients. You will have the option to decide this on a per correspondence basis (e.g. leave the custom password field blank to omit the custom password for a selected correspondence).

You will also have the option to input a password hint that will be shown to your recipient when they attempt to access the correspondence.
