Automatic deletion of sent files older than a year

The best practice when handling sensitive data is to minimise its retention period. Storing data beyond the duration it is needed introduces unnecessary risk.

Previously, data retention management was a manual process on Mediref. Moving forward, we now offer automatic deletion of files sent over one year ago.

We highly recommend enabling this option. You can do so from your settings page.

Why one year?

• The average correspondence sent via Mediref is opened within 10 days, and 99% is opened within 144 days.

• A 365-day expiry provides a buffer for any potential delays (e.g., delayed appointments).

• Most referrals have a one-year validity. Matching this period keeps files accessible for this duration.

In the future, we may make this one-year option more customisable. If you have 1-2 minutes, please share your feedback with us.

This automatic deletion setting can be found on your settings page. It can be toggled on or off whenever you like.
